Hi Sheila
having a photo walk about would normally be no problem at all; however, at the moment the church is closed due to there being death watch beetle in the ceilings. As work was being carried out at the beginning of the year the ceilings were found to be unsafe and a structural engineers report meant the church had to be closed. At present we are worshipping in the church hall and the church will be closed until 2012 at the earliest. Lots of the furniture is boxed in and a chipboard wall has been made to divide the chancel from the rest of the church. We are using the chancel for small services however with the downpour of the last week water has been seeping through one of the walls; we hope to rectify this in the week.
We have put in an application to English Heritage and we will know later in the year whether they can help; the total cost will be at least £1 million and we will probably have to raise 10%.
However, if you would like to see what has been happening I would gladly show you around. It would be nice to meet you.

Sorry about all the problems and I really hope you can raise the funds to repair the Church. I will throw this out to the forum and ask if anyone would like to take a look around at what can be safetly viewed.

Anyone or is it just me?????????????????????????????

Hello She and RevJune

I would love to be included on a walk/tour of Winwick Church.

I was born in Newton-le-Wilows, and have lived here all my life (except for 2 years working abroad in the 1980s).

To my shame, I have to admit that I have never been inside Winwick Church.

If anyone from the Forum arranges a visit - please, please, please let me know.

Dear Rev June
I think that makes 3 of us so far. As you are a very busy person, could you offer us some dates and we can all agree with what suits everyone best?

I am off all week, so personally I can make any day or time of this week, but as others maybe working - perhaps a weekend may be better for them. Not Sunday I am presuming.

Thank you for your kind offer.
Cheers Sheila

Hi

As previously stated I would love to have the opportunity to look round the church.

Although semi-retired, I work only on Mondays & Tuesdays so would be available any other time (holidays notwithstanding).

I am more than happy to use my car to transport people (or would be willing to walk there - it wouldn't be the first time by any means.
